Glucagon-like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Receptor Agonists (Dulaglutide, Liraglutide, Lixisenatide, Semaglutide, and Tirzepatide): Aspiration and Pneumonia Aspiration during General Anaesthesia or Deep Sedation

The National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) has issued a safety update regarding the risk of aspiration and pneumonia aspiration associated with Glucagon-like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Receptor Agonists (including dulaglutide, liraglutide, lixisenatide, semaglutide, and tirzepatide) during general anaesthesia or deep sedation. The risk is linked to delayed gastric emptying caused by these drugs. Registration holders are required to update product information to reflect this safety information.
